Hounds

Retired racing greyhounds available for adoption through Greyhound Crossroads in Upstate South Carolina.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR ADOPTERS!

We are currently doing adoptions on a limited basis, in the Upstate Area of South Carolina, due to the shortage of greyhounds. Most of the tracks closed across the country in 2020, but we have gotten a few dogs from Australia and the two remaining tracks in West Virginia. Please fill out this form so we have your current info and can add you to our list of people interested in greyhound adoption.

If you are a new adopter and are in our adoption area of Upstate SC, please fill out the form below. You will be contacted to complete the approval process, with a home visit, IF we have a greyhound available that will work for your home. If you are already an approved adopter and have adopted from us before, please fill out the form below, so we have your current info and can start looking for a dog that suits your needs.

Greyhound Crossroads Adoption Requests

You will be contacted if we have a greyhound that will be a good match. That may take awhile. We suggest making an adoption donation of $450 WHEN you get your greyhound to help us cover its' medical and transport expenses. We never charge a fee to apply.

Buster just arrived from Australia. He only raced 7 races there and won 2 of them. His last race was December 4th 2023. He raced at 79lbs and is a tall, handsome, guy with a beautiful shiny coat. His sire is Dyna Double One and his dam is Lilac Izmir. He was born on April 16th of 2022. Buster is full of fun and loves to play with humans and other dogs. In Australia he lived with two retired greyhounds, a whippet and a Jack Russell and was very good with them. He is very social with other dogs and gets along with everyone. Buster was already home acclimated in Australia and was house trained there and had good house manners so he should be an easy addition to his new home. Whether it is a game of fetch, a run on leash, or just hanging out at home, Buster is is ready for anything. He does well traveling too. He was too interested in the cat to be able to live with them. We were able to redirect him some, but we would prefer a home with no kitties. Buster hasn't had long term exposure to kids although he really liked the kids he met. If you are looking for an outgoing, loving, playful dog, Buster is your guy!

Adoption Status: Available for Adoption

Thunder just arrived from another adoption group that asked for our help. Their vet passed away, so they have been unable to get any dogs vetted for over 6 months. So these dogs have been waiting on vetting and homes for a very long time. Thunder ran 9 maiden races (for dogs that have never won a race) at Tri State in West Virginia. He placed in some of those, but wasn't able to win a single race, so he was retired in October of 2023. He has been waiting on a home since then. Thunder's sire is the famous Superior Panama and his dam is CET Sunny. He raced at 69 lbs and will turn 3 on October 20th. Thunder is a happy, friendly boy once he gets to know you. He can be just a little timid at first in new situations, but still eventually will go up to everyone for love and petting. A very sweet guy! Thunder is good with other dogs of all sizes. He is in a foster home with small dogs. Thunder had mixed results with cats. He was interested in them, but would redirect. He might be trainable, but we just feel that he was too interested to be safe living with cats, without a lot of training. He liked the kids he met a lot, so should be fine in a home with kids too. Thunder has had a toe injury on one of his back feet and one toe was amputated long ago. It is completely healed now and he doesn't seem to notice it. Thunder loves toys and takes them to his crate, so may be a bit of a toy hoarder.   UPDATE!  Thunder is available again for adoption, arriving on 12.14.24 to Jacksonville FL.  He has shown mixed results with small dogs so shouldn't be considered safe with them without more testing and training.
