Pending Hounds
IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR ADOPTERS!
We are currently doing adoptions on a limited basis, in the Upstate Area of South Carolina, due to the shortage of greyhounds. Most of the tracks closed across the country in 2020, but we have gotten a few dogs from Australia and the two remaining tracks in West Virginia. We also occasionally get returned dogs from our group and other groups that have gone out of business. If you are a new adopter in the Upstate South Carolina Area, fill out this form so we can add you to our list of people interested in greyhound adoption.
If you have adopted from Greyhound Crossroads previously: Please fill out the form below so we have your updated info and can begin finding the right dog for you.
Greyhound Crossroads Adoption Requests
We suggest making a donation of $450, WHEN you get your greyhound, to help us cover its' medical and transport expenses. We never ask for a fee to apply to adopt.
Arrest just arrived from another group that asked us to help them place dogs. Their vet died and they weren't able to get dogs vetted or adopted. Arrest started racing at the Dubuque race track. He was moved to Southland in Arkansas, then back to Dubuque, then to Wheeling in WV and then to Tri State in WV. In spite of racing 86 races, he only actually won 7 of them. He did get up to the top AA level once. His last race was February 20th of 2024 and he has been waiting on a home since then. Arrest's sire is the famous SH Avatar and his dam is Biodiesel. He is a big, tall guy that raced at 80lbs. He will turn 5 on October 29th. Arrest is a very, very, friendly, loving guy that will follow you around. He likes to cuddle on the couch or on the bed with people or other dogs. He even let a medium sized mixed breed dog sit on him while he was laying on a couch, so seems to be exceptionally tolerant. He is playful and happy. He passed his cat test with very little interest, so should be fine to live with cats. Arrest also did well when introduced to small dogs. About the only thing he really doesn't like much is slick floors. He is practicing on them at his foster home. He is an exceptionally loving guy that will just lean on you for love and will stand there as long as you will pet him. He is a calm guy that loved the kids he met. |

Martha is arriving soon from Australia. She only ran one race at the Dubbo Stadium and finished last. Martha was not cut out for the racing life, she’s too much of a detective! She likes to take her time, explore her surroundings, sniffing around until she gets the full picture and low-down on everything that’s going on! She is always eager to know what’s happening and learn new things. Her DOB is 8/26/21. Martha's sire is the famous Fernando Bale and her dam is Karen Keeping. Her ear tattoo is NKEMT. She was fully vetted before arrival in Australia. Martha (a.k.a. Mad Martha!) is a young, energetic and playful girl with a very sweet nature! She is a happy and confident dog who just adores her humans! In spite of her confidence, Martha can be a little shy around new people at first, but will still accept a pat on the head until she gets to know you- then she wants full on cuddles! Martha is used to being around other Greyhounds, she also has had positive interactions with some smaller breeds. Martha recently met some smallies through a fence and after a quick sniff and hello, she was happy to move on and focus on something else. You don’t make friends for life by coming on too strong! Martha is a dog that just exudes positive energy. She is happy and curious and will only grow in confidence the more she gets to know her new humans. Martha is a wonderful dog who would make a great addition in any home that has the love and patience that she deserves. She is a detective that can’t wait to discover her new family! So far Martha has been pretty shy and overwhelmed since she arrived, not wanting to come out of her kennel. Once out she does walk nicely on leash and will approach adults and older kids, but seemed more nervous around a toddler. She has not wanted to be sniffed or approached by any other dogs large or small. She showed some interest in the cat until it slapped her then she backed off. She did go back to see the cat later, so was still showing some interest. We think she may be trainable with cats with more supervision. She is supposed to be good with other dogs, so we think she is just a sensitive girl that needs some time to relax around strange dogs. |

Missy just arrived from Australia. She raced only 17 races and retired Feb 8 2022. She raced at Gosford, Richmond, The Gardens and Maitland. Missy only won 3 of her races but placed in quite a few races. She will turn 5 on May 16th. Her sire is Sulzanti and her dam is All A Miss. Missy is a beautiful, happy girl who just radiates positive energy to anyone she meets! She is a confident and curious dog who likes to explore and takes any new situation in her stride. Nothing fazes Missy, she is always super cool, calm, and collected! Missy is a very social dog who loves to meet and make a new friend she’ll approach just about anyone for a snuggle, a treat, and a bit of TLC! She walks well on the leash and has no hassle being handled she’s one of the most chilled out dogs you’ll ever meet! The same can be said about Missy and other dogs too- she’s so friendly she doesn’t care what species you are! Missy is very lady like and polite with other dogs, particularly small dogs- after a quick sniff hello, she’ll happily trot along and leave them about their day. When Missy isn’t making new human or dog friends, she loves to play around in water. Missy will happily jump into a paddling pool and dip the toes whenever she gets the chance. Missy is a gorgeous, happy dog with such a sweet disposition that it’s impossible to not fall in love with her immediately! She would make for a wonderful family pet and would quickly brighten up any home she enters. If you’re looking for a beautiful, chilled out and social girl, look no further than Missy. She has already been vetted in Australia and is microchipped. Her tattoo is NICSW. Missy needs a home with no kitties. She was way too interested in them to be safe around them. |
